Training Tips for a Fun Kid’s Triathlon
The Sports Club at Blue Tree amusement park in Phuket hosts a series of kid’s races called the I Did It Series for children ages 5-17. Enter your kids today.
Children are naturally competitive. They race and compete with each other for fun whenever they can. Channeling that sense of fun competition into healthy structured athletic events that bring the community of vacationers and residents together is the primary goal of the Blue Tree Sports Club in Phuket.
The Sports Club at Blue Tree offers training for kids and adults in Muay Thai, cricket, swimming, dance fitness, football, and fitness training. The sports club also hosts a wide variety of thrilling and fun sporting events and tournaments for kids in Phuket. These colorful and fun events include water basketball, dart football, beach tennis, an annual beach volleyball tournament, and Easter egg hunts and games.
Starting in August, Blue Tree will host the first event of the I Did It Series 2023. The I Did It Series is four races for kids aged 5-17, taking place from August through November. The series consists of the following races:
- Duathlon race on Saturday, August 19th
- Swim race on Saturday, September 16th
- Aquathlon race on Saturday, October 14th
- Phoenix Triathlon on Saturday, November 18th.
To enroll your child in these events, register with Blue Tree. We will supply all the details for the individual events. Have your kids wear appropriate clothing for each type of race (shorts, a t-shirt, and running shoes for foot and cycling races, and swimsuits and swim goggles for swimming competitions). You should also pack a bag or backpack containing sunscreen, water, snacks, a towel, and a change of clothing for your child.
Getting Ready for a Triathlon
While training as much as you can for any athletic activity is essential, it’s especially important for children to train seriously and correctly for a triathlon. Triathlons consist of one race of three different legs. The first leg is a swimming race, the second is a cycling competition, and the final leg is a running race.
To convey the challenges of a triathlon and help develop the mental attitude they’ll need to compete effectively, have your child follow a structured training plan in the months leading up to the triathlon event. Also, have them compete in the swimming and foot race events at Blue Tree Phuket in the months before the triathlon.
Children’s Triathlon Training Tips
Design a training plan that covers all three disciplines of the triathlon. Your child should feel equally prepared when running, swimming, or cycling.
Encourage your child to train with a friend who will also be competing in the triathlon. Training with friends or siblings encourages both children to push themselves more and develop a healthy sense of competition. It also helps them have a reason to train when they’re feeling unmotivated.
Have your child start slowly and gradually increase their training volume and duration. Your child may be eager to race and want to start training heavily. This eagerness often results in sprains, and muscle pulls and tears, which can bring their dreams of racing glory to a halt.
Parents can be a guiding force that encourages them to increase their training regimen gradually and ensures they make it through the training period injury-free. Teach your child that taking the time to rest is an important facet of training. Muscles need time to recover from exertion.
Training is also an excellent opportunity to teach your child about the importance of proper nutrition, getting enough sleep, and staying hydrated.

Professional Trainers at Blue Tree
If you feel your child would be better prepared for a triathlon being trained by a professional, the sports club at Blue Tree Phuket has trainers and coaches that can guide your child’s training regimen and ensure they’re prepared for the race.
Coach Chor and Coach Hod, respectively, are the professional swimming and fitness training coaches at Blue Tree. They can design and monitor a training schedule that will prepare your child for the level of competition they’re likely to face in the I Did It Series of events.
It’s vital to ensure your child is adequately prepared to compete at the same level as the other children of their age in these events. It helps them build self-confidence and self-esteem. Providing them with this mental and physical preparation enables them to get the most out of enjoying healthy competition and testing the limits of their physical and mental endurance.
